Hi, I'm Peter Hannah, and perhaps you will call me "Your Google Guy". I'm a psychotherapist (second career) who was formerly a webmaster and web consultant (part of my first career). I am currently in my fourth year of private practice, and have built a clientele primarily through my use of the web. And I have driven people to my website primarily using Google AdWords.
I learned how to use the web to find clients (or more accurately help them find me) after a year of struggle when I first opened my office. I found out that just because I was there, people did not come - because they did not know about me. Dropping more into debt each month, I used all my skills and imagination, and turned to something I did know - the web.
I found a great domain name and created a website - ChangingForGood.com - that evolved to include multimedia content about who I am and what I do. But just like the office, I found a website is great, but just having one doesn't mean people will visit. What was I to do? After Craigslist, print ads, mailings, classes, email newsletters, fliers, posters, and other means didn't bring me a lot of clients, I found Google AdWords. I now see 20-25 clients a week, getting 2-4 new client contacts each week. And now I also use the knowledge I gained to help other therapists and private practice professionals.
In addition to my experience as a therapist, I spent 15 years in high-tech, in all sorts of jobs, for employers as big as IBM, and as small as a dot-com startup. I have a Masters degree in Telecommunications, and have been building websites since 1996. I've been featured in Psychotherapy Finances magazine on both Google AdWords for therapists, and web video for therapists.
