Lesson #6 - Things That Make Your Site Look Cheap, Dated Or Otherwise Unprofessional.

Now remember, one of the things your website is supposed to do is make you look credible, legitimate, and professional. It should transmit the message that you are someone who a person can trust with very important matters, a professional who deserves $100 or more and hour to talk to. This site is your marketing face to the world! Listed below are some things that impact that negatively, especially to the one, or tech-savvy:

  1. Using obvious free-hosting (home.comcast.net/~user, or www.freewebs.com/~user). There are ways to hide this! Check out free domain forwarding at mydomain.com.
  2. A visitor counter at the bottom of your page (very 1990's).
  3. Animated GIFs (animated graphics) (again, back to the 90's).
  4. Pages that say "Under Construction" (even worse if you have a cartoon of a worker with a shovel).
  5. Using a home email address or free email address rather than one attached to your domain name (again, there are free ways to use free email but hide it - check out mydomain.com again).
  6. Misspellings
